Travelling can be daunting and more expensive if you're taking a trip alone. While most Hong Kong travel agencies and resorts, such as Club Med, can help organise trips for single travellers, it would not be a package connecting them with other singles.
Best Single Travel organises just these kinds of trips. The United States-based company specialises in excursions for people in their 30s, 40s, 50s and active 60s. Company owner Sheryl Weinberger also resells packages for the 18-35 age group.
The company launched in 2007 with a trip to Cancun, Mexico. Now, with staff in Arizona and Tennessee, it plans about 20 trips a year for about 500 people. While travellers are mostly Americans and Canadians, Weinberger says some are from South America, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Brazil and Russia.
Best Single Travel runs tours to Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand and is travelling to the mainland for the first time this year. 'Tours in Asia are growing in popularity but still consist of small groups,' Weinberger says, adding that the most popular choices are Greece, Italy, African safaris, Costa Rica and trips taking place over New Year.
Other options include cruises, sailing, skiing, surfing, multisport adventure, cooking, painting and Pilates. There is also a category for Jewish singles.
If you're interested in travelling alone and learning more about singles trips, Connecting: Solo Travel Network is a good place to start.
The Canada-based network is a non-profit international organisation started 20 years ago by veteran solo traveller and writer Diane Redfern after a year-long round-the-world journey.
