I'd like to wear espadrilles this summer. Where can I find some for men?
Mr Dandy: Our first reaction was to send you to the Pyrenees, where they are from, or back to the 1980s, when they were cool. However, further investigation suggests men's fashion is re-embracing the look of these casual, canvas shoes with roped soles. Agnes b has them in store this season (HK$690, only in black; IFC Mall, Central, tel: 2805 0678). H&M's men's section carries espadrilles in black, white or blue-and-white pinstripes for only HK$99 (68 Queen's Road Central, tel: 2110 9546).
Mr Dapper: For the luxury, updated interpretation, head over to Bally, where they come in blue suede with braided rope at the base (HK$1,990; IFC Mall, tel: 3586 2899). Those in search of a wider colour palette need to shop online at espadrillesetc.com, which delivers to Hong Kong (about HK$200 and up, excluding delivery).
People have been teasing me about my crisp, new-looking jeans. They say it's not cool and that you're supposed to buy them looking worn out already. I don't get it but I'm willing to give it a go. Where can one procure these? No acid wash, please.
Mr Dapper: 'One' does not shop very often, does one? Acid wash? Bite your tongue! These days, it's more difficult to find jeans that have not been pre-aged, ripped or treated to look worn. However, we still prefer deep indigo straight-leg jeans on men. Whatever you're looking for, save time by hitting a multibrand retailer such as D-mop (Times Square, Causeway Bay, tel: 2506 2066). It carries brands such as Evisu, Blue Blood and G-Star, all of which have made artful rips in their well constructed jeans (HK$1,890 to HK$2,890).
Mr Dandy: You need the hip brands at Bauhaus (1 Great George Street, Causeway Bay, tel: 2882 3551), where you'll find denim in degrees of degradation, from the very cool Adriano Goldschmied (HK$2,890 up) to the more affordable Tough line (HK$895), as well as Drive Jeans (HK$1,620) and Eighty Twenty (HK$995). At Just Cavalli, it looks like the designer has done some serious partying in his pre-worn jeans (HK$2,900 to HK$3,100; Pacific Place, Admiralty, tel: 2918 1201). Zadig & Voltaire knows a lot about looking like you don't care about clothes when you actually do, and has the jeans to prove it (HK$2,100; Pacific Place, tel: 2918 9522). If paying thousands for damaged jeans offends you then take a look at the selection at Zara (HK$399 to HK$599; Times Square, tel: 2506 0070).
I'm 16 and I'm looking for a shop that sells stylish but not too trendy buttoned shirts in a range of colours and prints. I cannot afford the big brands and all my friends shop at the obvious places.
