Vendors join drive to cut plastic-bag use

About 100 of the 1,500 newspaper vendors in the city have signed up for a year-long campaign to combat use of plastic bags, organiser Greeners Action says. Some vendors said that it cost them almost HK$1,000 a month to buy plastic bags. The green group cited official data that showed about 120 million plastic bags for newspapers or magazines were disposed of last year. The group wants legislation to be introduced to ban newsstands giving out plastic bags.
