Girl leaps from building after row over video
A 16-year-old secondary school student was seriously injured after jumping from a building in Shek Kip Mei yesterday.
The Form Four student, who was wearing her school uniform, fell onto an open area outside Man Lok House in Tai Hang Sai Estate at about 6am.
She had been in a row with classmates over the uploading to the internet of a video taken during lessons, the principal of Hong Kong & Kowloon Chiu Chow Public Association Secondary School said.
The plunge came nine days after another Form Four student, Wong Ling-fung from Tung Chung Catholic School, jumped to his death in front of 600 teachers and students during a school assembly.
Eight students have killed themselves during this academic year.
Yesterday, the student was taken unconscious to Princess Margaret Hospital. Confirmation of her identity took eight hours and involved teachers matching the list of absentees with the location of their homes. The girl's father, mother and brother waited for hours outside the operating theatre without confirmation of the victim's identity.
They received confirmation of her identity and learned that she was in critical condition only when she was transferred to the intensive care unit.
