It all comes down to a matter of taste

It seems an artistic menu can also whet the appetite for art works. A recurring Art of T campaign at the Mandarin Oriental hotel - which displays themed works while serving dishes inspired by the collection - has enticed a guest to pick up a painting by Dutch artist Tobias Spierenburg at the opening.

Launched in the Clipper Lounge on Tuesday, this month's programmme features art by Spierenburg, French photographer Yannick Labrousse and sculptor Raphael Scorbiac built around the theme of 'From Mist to Sunlight'. Works depict changes of light and landscapes from dusk to dawn.

And executive pastry chef Yves Matthey (pictured) has designed a dessert buffet featuring cakes and chocolates that echo the theme of changing light. There is even a cake to represent the pale green light at pre-dawn.

'I often go to galleries to get inspired. Being a pastry chef is pretty artistic. For me, it's about creating art that can make people smile,' said the Swiss, who has been working in Hong Kong for 20 years. 'Nicely done tiramisu and bread pudding are beautiful. I love everything with black sesame paste.'

Collaborating galleries sold five pieces of art during the previous Art of T campaign in March, and organisers hope this menu will prove even more appetising.
