IAN Wright's suspension from the European Cup Winners' Cup final highlights an issue that must surely be addressed prior to the World Cup finals. Wright collected his second yellow card in Arsenal's eighth game of the competition. At his age it may have been his last chance to grace such a great international showpiece. Presumably, this ridiculous disciplinary system will be kept for the World Cup. My arguments against it are as follows: Showcase matches should involve the world's great players not reserves brought in to replace a suspended player. Fans are unnecessarily punished. Two yellow cards over six to seven matches is no great crime, particularly given some of the card-happy referees involved in high-tension World Cup matches. I fully support match bans for players sent off but feel that a caution should not be ''carried'' into the second phase of the competition. NICK DEAL Happy Valley
