Hongkongers have regained confidence in travel to Thailand, with hundreds of people signing up for packages every day, agents say. 
Tour groups to Bangkok resumed yesterday after being suspended for about two months. 
Price is a key factor. Packages are as low as HK$899 for five days to Bangkok and Pattaya.  
'We are seeing over ... 300 people enrolling for tour groups to Thailand every day, equalling 10 groups a day,' Daniel Chan Kin-pang,  deputy general manager of Hong Thai Travel Services,  said. 
Their HK$899 and HK$999 five-day packages to Thailand are full. It is now HK$1,199 per person, still HK$400 cheaper than usual. 
The agent yesterday sent its first tour of about 10 people to Bangkok and Pattaya, after the Travel Industry Council  lifted the ban on tour groups to the Thai capital after the political situation there improved. 
A woman who left with the group yesterday believed it would be safe. 
'Unlike travelling on one's own, when one might not be able to obtain important and timely travel information, we can count on the tour guide and the agent,' she said. 
Cheng Ting-hei, who left for Bangkok for work with colleagues yesterday, said he was not worried about personal safety because the protests there had ended. 
The Security Bureau lowered the travel alert for Thailand to red from black last week,  then further lowered it  to amber on Wednesday. Amber means the country shows signs of threat and travellers should monitor the situation and exercise caution, and that those who are there should attend to personal safety.
A spokeswoman for EGL Tours  said about 1,500 people had already signed up for Thai tour groups since it relaunched such products last Friday. 'Thailand has long been a popular travel destination among Hongkongers, and hotels cut prices to boost their business, so it's a lot cheaper to go there,' she said. 
One of EGL Tours' five-day packages to Thailand cost about HK$3,600 per person before, but had been reduced to only HK$2,400, with the accommodation upgraded from four- to five-star hotels. That special offer was soon sold out and now the package cost HK$2,900, she said.
