High definition used to mean big, expensive cameras that cost thousands of dollars. But today you can get HD performance in smaller, more affordable packages like the Kodak Playsport ZX3. Looking more like a mobile phone than a camcorder, the Playsport ZX3 offers full 1080p (1280 x 1080 pixels) video resolution at a full 30 frames per second - basically HD quality video that you'll be able to play back on your HD television. There is also a 5-megapixel digital camera for still images. Kodak has added some fun to the ZX3, making it waterproof up to 3 metres. There's just one problem - there's no flash or external light, so you will need plenty of sunlight if you want to catch video underwater. The ZX3 can also shoot in slow motion (60fps) at a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. It has 128MB of internal memory and uses SD/SDHC memory cards. On the downside, you don't get an optical zoom, although there is a 4x digital zoom. The lens is also fixed focus, so everything between 100cm and 'infinity' will be in focus, but not close-ups. The display is also small at 2 inches - a problem underwater. The Kodak Playsport ZX3 costs HK$1,390. Pros: waterproof to 3 metres, full HD video recording, slow-motion video capture Cons: small display, fixed-focus lens
