CSL, Hong Kong's largest wireless network operator, yesterday introduced new chief executive Joseph O'Konek amid the industry regulator's call for greater transparency in the performance of local mobile broadband service providers.
O'Konek, who served as president of Taiwan mobile carrier Far EasTone Telecommunications from 1997 to 2002, vowed that CSL would continue to offer the best network performance in terms of average speeds, coverage, broadband coverage, voice quality, and data throughput.
He made the commitment after CSL announced the findings by benchmarking firm Celfinet, which found during its study in April that CSL led all local 3G operators in terms of voice call quality, broadband coverage and data transmission speeds.
'CSL is the only company in Hong Kong that can offer customers a choice of three service brands, 1010, one2free and New World Mobility, designed to meet their individual needs and all powered by our world class Next G mobile network,' O'Konek said.
The operator's performance pledge followed the launch in March of an initiative led by the Office of the Telecommunications Authority (Ofta) to have local carriers publish their service standards, including network reliability, service restoration time, customer hotline performance, customer complaint handling and technical performance.
CSL, PCCW, Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong and SmarTone Mobile Communications are expected to publish their respective performance pledges next month.
