Who started it? Bjorn Bruun was born in 1963 in Denmark. He studied architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts before embarking on a bachelor of business administration course at Copenhagen Business School. Soon after, he pursued a career in modelling in Italy and New York, where he worked for designers such as Armani and Valentino. Having decided to make fashion a full-time career, he went on to establish his first brand, Bjorn Bruun, in the 1980s. In 1994, he joined forces with his brother to launch Bruuns Bazaar, of which Bjorn is chief designer and creative director. In 1999, they launched BZR, a younger diffusion line. Last month, the brand won Danish designer of the year at the Dansk fashion awards. This summer marks the debut of its sunglasses line in Hong Kong.
Why we love it: Bruuns Bazaar features simple, clean lines to create a relaxed yet elegant look. The designs are a blend of classic and modern, with a focus on quality fabrics and versatile styles at an affordable price. For the summer, the silhouette is feminine and floaty with loose shapes that are draped, gathered or pulled, including dresses gathered at the waist. The colour palette is light and refreshing and includes pink, orange and rose complemented with blue, grey, black and white. The designs also feature floral prints inspired by vintage designs of Balenciaga, Givenchy and Chanel.
What we'd pick: the silk back cotton top (HK$1,850) and cotton linen shorts (both above far left; HK$1,980) make a chic combination for the summer. For the weekend, try the button-down shirt dress with belt (above left; HK$1,980).
