Mark du Plessis picked up his first double this term aboard Flying Supreme and Divine Kid, but literally went the long way about getting it after looping the field to win on Devine Kid for trainer Francis Lui Kin-wai. Divine Kid travelled wide without cover for the entire 1,600m of the Gallop Handicap, but forged clear in the straight to record a gutsy win over Beautiful Choice. 'Divine Kid was coming back in distance and Francis wanted me to keep him out and rolling along in clear room,' Du Plessis said. 'I don't normally like to ride them like that, but he's quite dour and, with that step back in trip, he had the stamina required to cover the extra ground.' Du Plessis guided Flying Supreme to an earlier victory for trainer Caspar Fownes - the same duo that combined with Green Birdie to humble the mighty Singaporean sprinter Rocket Man on home turf earlier this year.
