The demand for traditional Chinese medicine continues to grow in Hong Kong. To meet this demand, the school of Chinese medicine at Baptist University has introduced the master of science degree in personal health management in Chinese medicine.

Professor Liu Liang, dean of the Chinese medicine school, says the programme combines traditional Chinese and Western medicine.

'Health management does not refer to the administration or management of a medical institute. It is the management of one's body. The programme covers theories and knowledge in taking care of one's body, and includes Western concepts such as dietetics,' he says.

It aims to promote the benefits of Chinese medicine and its application in health management services in society. The university hopes to attract interest from a range of applicants. 'Western medicine practitioners, pharmacists, dieticians and physiotherapists who care about their health and their families are welcome to apply for the course,' Liu says.

The course is delivered through classroom lectures. Students will also visit rehabilitation centres and elderly homes. There is also clinical placement at Chinese medicine institutions in Guangdong and Baptist University for practical lessons.
