Probation for mother who left child naked in street as punishment
An unemployed mother who stripped her eight-year-old daughter and left her naked in the street as punishment was put on probation for a year yesterday.
Wong Ngan-chun, 35, wept in Tuen Mun Court as she pleaded with magistrate Stephen Smout to give her another chance.
She had pleaded guilty earlier to ill-treatment of a child.
The court heard that on June 18, Wong hit her daughter with a coat hanger because the girl had damaged a button on an electric fan at their home at Tai Hing Estate, Tuen Mun. The defendant then took off her daughter's clothes and left her alone in the street.
A 64-year-old pedestrian who found the girl wandering in the Tai Hing Commercial Centre bought clothes for her and called the police.
Weeping, Wong promised to change her ways, saying she did not want her daughter to be taken away from her.
