WITH the new Hong Kong Stadium now virtually decreed as suitable only for MTV-type ''unplugged'' music sessions, one would have thought that management at the Coliseum and the Ko Shan Theatre would rub their hands in glee and prepare for the deluge of rock acts that the opening of the So Kon Po white elephant prompted.
No so. The Ko Shan Theatre is set to close on June 1 for extensive renovations and will be out of commission for several months.
And when it reopens, we are told that it will be able to accommodate only 1,200 people instead of the 2,600 at present.
''I was very surprised when I heard about it,'' said Entertainment Company honcho Anders Nelsson, whose next two concerts - John Denver and B. B. King - are being staged at the Ko Shan Theatre.
Nelsson added: ''There is a lot of scope at the Ko Shan Theatre for the venue to be expanded to accommodate more people.
''But from what I hear, the back open-air section which holds 1,600 people will be done away with. So we're ending up with a smaller venue - although the new prices that will be charged to hire the venue will be bigger.'' While on the subject of concert venues, Nelsson pointed out that he attended one of the Alan Tam concerts at the new stadium.
