In fung shui, the wood element is represented by, naturally, wood, but also plants and the colour green. Wooden furniture, however, is not considered wood energy as the material used is dead. Wood controls the liver, gall bladder, muscles, tendons, eyes and nails. When there is an excess of wood energy in your body or environment, you may have muscular spasms and tension in the head, neck and shoulders, and rigid or cracked fingernails. You may also experience headaches, dizziness, ringing in the ears, visual problems and twitches. And watch out for high blood pressure and numbness or tingling in the peripheries. You may be easily agitated and prone to shouting and outbursts of anger. When there is a deficiency of wood energy, you will feel lethargic and may have difficulties sleeping. Depression, frustration and addictions to alcohol, tobacco, sugar and coffee are also signs of deficient wood energy. You may also experience food allergies, problems with digestion and feel anxious, restless and nervous. Once the fung shui master has identified any imbalance in the wood energy within your living space, he will either reduce the attacking energy or increase the nourishing energy. Fire drains wood and metal chops wood, so you may have to reduce the influence of fire (red) and metallic (white) colours. Wood is sustained by water, so introducing black and blue may redress the balance.
