It's not really news when a drunken teenage driver runs through a traffic light in the United States. It might not even be news when the police give chase and he flees.
What makes this tale weird is that the teen concerned was driving a horse and buggy. Oh, and he was Amish.
The Amish sect lead very strict lives - even wrist-watches are considered too 'frivolous'.
They are farmers who do not use modern vehicles but prefer instead to drive horse-drawn carriages. The 17-year-old Amish in this case is from the town of Leon in New York State and is in trouble after leading police on a chase through the town, reports website wgrz.com.
The teen was observed not halting at a stop sign in his horse and buggy. Sheriff's deputies tried to stop him, but he refused and the chase began.
After crashing the buggy and fleeing he was later arrested. The charges include underage possession of alcohol, overdriving an animal and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
