Hed Kandi Pool Party

Sat, 4pm, Venetian Macao

Hong Kong summers are more about junk trips than pool parties - if only because most people share their pool with 500 other inhabitants of their apartment block - but the next Hed Kandi gig will shake that up.

The quintessential glam house party is again going poolside at the Venetian Macao, offering a sunny blend of soulful, uplifting house to punters at Asia's largest resort. Think extravagant cocktails shaken, stirred and sipped to equally extravagant beats, at what's essentially the pool party to make other pool parties run home crying to mummy.

From 4pm, Hed Kandi will sprawl over the glitzy Venetian poolside, where a cocktail bar and cabanas will compete for the attention of about 1,500 glitterati from Hong Kong and Macau. The party carries on 'till late' - late enough for the sunshine to segue into sunset and a balmy, beat-filled night. There'll be lots of fresh, funky house and, as befits Macau's most opulent digs, dancers and performers will add to the sheen with a Vegas-style stage show.

Andrew Daniels from the Hed Kandi stable is coming over with a set list of sexy house from around the globe, while live percussionist Steve Lewis will drop in more of the flamboyant rhythms the Britain-based label is known for.

Hed Kandi comprises more than a label, having reached the heady height of mainstream success where it's now known as a brand - and a lifestyle brand at that. Originally founded in 1999 as a commercial house label, Hed Kandi now encompasses venues, clothing and fragrance franchises, and even its own airline (don't worry, it only flies to clubbing central Ibiza). DJs on the label are promoted as Hed Kandi DJs rather than through their own monikers, while the artwork on all compilations and fliers is instantly recognisable as such.

The label itself has released dozens of album series covering disco house, lounge house, funky house and just above every other variant of house best served by the beach or pool. The pimple-free perfection of the brand is mirrored in similarly slick parties where the emphasis is on glamour, glitz and unabashed luxury - and the upcoming pool party at Asia's very own high rollers' playground promises to tick all of the above.
