There is something about the mixture of high schools, music and socially mismatched romances that can - when done just right - make for stunning commercial success.
In 1978 there was Grease; now there's Glee, and in 2006, High School Musical debuted on American televisions, attracting millions of viewers and setting a new Disney Channel record.
The film - which centres around two high school juniors, Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez, from rival cliques - was quickly followed by a television sequel in 2007 and a feature film in 2008.
Since then, there have been DVDs, CDs, books and other merchandise: there's no doubt that High School Musical has been a huge hit among 'tweens' - children aged between nine and 14.
And now, High School Musical Live on Stage is set to hit Hong Kong. The American tour which began in late 2006 included many of the original cast.
This time round, Troy will be played by Max Milner, who has played in the West End in London along with other theatre credits, and Gabriella will be portrayed by Talia Kodesh, who hails from South Africa and has already performed in more than 10 productions.
