An elderly man bludgeoned his wife to death with a fitness spring bar before killing himself with a fruit knife at home in Shau Kei Wan yesterday.
The murder-suicide was discovered when Wong Nam-sai, 65, was found lying face down with head injuries in the public corridor outside her fourth-floor flat in Block L at Ming Wah Dai Ha in A Kung Ngam Road at about 5.45am. Beside her were a bloodstained fitness spring bar and a pair of her slippers, police said.
She was taken unconscious to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, where doctors declared her dead at about 9am.
Firefighters were forced to break in to her flat, where police found her husband, Li To, 64, lying unconscious in a pool of blood in the living room. 'He sustained a cut wound on his left wrist and a stab wound in the chest. A bloodstained fruit knife was found beside him,' an officer said.
'There was no apparent sign of fighting, but there was blood on the floor, wall and door.'
Li was taken to the same hospital, where he was declared dead shortly before 11am.
Police believe that he attacked his wife during a dispute and then committed suicide inside their flat. Officers are trying to discover the reason why the couple argued.
