A former secondary school teacher, who paid teenage boys he met on the internet for oral sex in public toilets and at his home, was jailed yesterday for three years and eight months. District Court Judge Anthea Pang Ko-kam said Lee Tak-fai's offences deserved to be regarded with great abhorrence by the public because he had exploited vulnerable and naive teenagers who had found it difficult to resist the temptation of money. Lee 40, who had been a liberal studies and mathematics teacher for elite students, had earlier pleaded guilty to four counts of indecent assault for engaging in sex acts with three boys, aged between 13 and 15, in 2008 and last year. He also confessed to making child pornography by secretly filming his sex acts with one of the boys at his Tin Shui Wai home. Lee paid the victims, none of whom was his student, between HK$500 and HK$3,000 for sex, the court was told. He met the victims in a chat room on a gay website. The incidents came to light after one victim told a social worker, and later reported the matter to police. Lee had paid boys for sex because he was overloaded with work and stressed, the court was told. He received widespread support from almost 200 students, teachers, principals, friends and family, who wrote to the court pleading for leniency. However, Pang said that she had to impose a deterrent sentence because Lee had initiated the sex with the boys and that money had been involved. It was important for the court to protect children who were vulnerable to exploitation, the judge said.
