In considering the overall design and layout of your office, use partitions to denote personal workspaces. Partitions should be solid and high enough to ensure that team members cannot see each other when sitting at their desk, but not so high that they feel hemmed in. If you have a large workspace where there is constant activity, set up partitions along walkways to lessen distraction. Partitions should be padded to absorb sound, and non-reflective to reduce distracting light. Ensure that there are no beams or protrusions overhead, otherwise those sitting underneath will be susceptible to tension, headaches and stress. Installing a false ceiling may solve the problem of overhead structures, but the height should not be too low, as low ceilings create problems with concentration. As you consider your signage and logo, use colours that support the element of the business. For instance, law and finance firms are associated with metal which is supported by earth, and destroyed by fire. Colours that can be used include grey, white, gold and silver, or yellow and brown. It is preferable that you select a good day for opening your business. You can select separate auspicious days to sign the tenancy contract, start renovations and place the signage. A fung shui professional will consider the orientation of the office and the astrological data of the main business partners when selecting the most auspicious date and time to start work. This is the last of a series on the fung shui of starting a business.
