Unforgettable last exam
There were cheers and tears yesterday as the results of the last Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) were released.
A total of 122,387 candidates took the exam this year, an increase of 6,860 from last year.
Sixteen students scored 10 As. St Joseph's College had four 10-A students; Queen's College and Diocesan Girls' School each had three; and La Salle College had two.
King's College, St Paul's Co-educational College, Kwun Tong Maryknoll College and SKH Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School each had one 10-A student.
The youngest candidate this year was Jessica Kong Hui-jun, 12, from Tai Po Sam Yuk Secondary School. She scored 24 points, with top grades in English and Putonghua.
However, yesterday was not all joy. Students have to fight for a Form Six place as competition heats up - only 35,000 places are available to the 59,000 candidates who have met the minimum requirements. This leaves about 24,000 candidates racing around trying to find a way to continue their studies.
