New Zealand Film Festival/ Australian Film Festival
Antipodean cinema will shine this autumn at two dedicated showcases, with highlights from New Zealand  including films about a lesbian music duo (The Topp Twins) and Maori tribal conflicts (Taua - War Party).  Australian films on show will include Rachel Perkins'  screen adaptation of the 'Aboriginal musical theatre' Bran Nue Dae  and the 1982 Kirk Douglas  vehicle The Man from Snowy River.  New Zealand festival: Sep 3-11, Broadway Cinematheque;  Australian festival: Sep 16-26, Hong Kong Arts Centre and Hong Kong Space Museum  
Alfred Hitchcock  Retrospective
 Twenty of the British director's films will feature in the latest instalment of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department's Repertory Cinema series, including the early Blackmail  (1929) and Spellbound  (1945), plus revered late-career classics such as Vertigo (1958)  and a digitally restored Psycho (1960).

 Fresh Wave 2010
 Having spent the past four years being shown as part of the Hong Kong International Film Festival, the Hong Kong Arts Development Council-backed event is being held independently this year.  It will present 30 local student shorts as well as 20 entries from abroad.

 Hong Kong Asian Film Festival
 The centrepiece  is Apichatpong Weerasethakul's  Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives,  the film which scooped the Palme d'Or at Cannes.

Kino
 Organised by Goethe-Institut Hongkong,  this annual German film showcase features 12 films, including Fatih Akin's  latest film Soul Kitchen and a focus on Matthias Glasner's work.

 Hong Kong Lesbian and  Gay Film Festival
 Details remain sketchy, but it will continue its run this year based at Broadway Cinematheque, one of the event's long-time co-organisers.

 Hong Kong Jewish Film Festival
 Films will include  A Jewish Girl in Shanghai,  a mainland animation set  during the war, and Orthodox Stance,  about boxer Dmitriy Salita.

 Hong Kong Independent Film Festival
 The annual indie film showcase organised by local film collective Ying E Chi offers screenings of local and international independent films.  
 Nov 13-28, Grand Cinema
 French Cinepanorama
 Has consistently provided a round-up of the year's best Gallic fare. This year's line-up has not been finalised, but French cinema's bumper crop this year - as shown by the awards they have won  - should make selection easy for programmers.
