A RECORD number of people are applying to become crown counsel, raising hopes the Legal Department can hit its target of 60 per cent localisation. In the latest recruitment drive, 160 local candidates are competing for about 20 vacancies. During the last recruitment, 95 people vied for 26 vacancies. The department's chamber manager, Peter Cheung Hok-kwong, said the department's competitive salary package and good promotion prospects were luring people away from the private sector. He said he was hopeful the Governor's localisation target of 60 per cent by the end of next year could be met. The current overall localisation rate is 51 per cent.
