Oriental Press sues Web companies

Oriental Press has sued the companies behind five websites, including Wikipedia, for unspecified damages for publishing what it says are defamatory statements. It filed for damages for libel at the Court of First Instance against Link Mon Company, Wikimedia Foundation, Inc, Inmediahk.net, Beijing Baidu Netcom Science and Technology Co, and the firm behind www.ybwb.cn. The websites include online collaborative encyclopedias Wikipedia and Baidu Baike and online newspaper Inmediahk.net. The articles were published from October 2007 to August this year. Oriental Press, which owns the Oriental Daily newspaper, has asked the companies to disclose the number of visitors to the websites after the articles were published.
