Postal codes

IT is about time that the Postmaster General introduced a system for postal addresses. Presently some addresses look more like instructions for getting to the place, for example, ''Flat D, 22nd floor, Belleve Court, Pictorial Garden, On King Street, Fo Tan, Sha Tin, New Territories.'' Moreover, one can claim a property to be almost anywhere one wants. For instance, the University of Science and Technology prints, ''Clear Water Bay, Kowloon'', on its official stationary, although it is actually in the New Territories. I agree that ''Clear Water Bay, Kowloon,'' sounds nicer than ''Ta Po Tsai, New Territories''.

Wouldn't it be nicer, more efficient, and clearer to establish an official system for street and unit numbers, and, better still, postal codes? M.F. YUEN Central
