You need space to work out, that's why Flex is opening a studio four times bigger than its former premises.
Located in Wong Chuk Hang, the new home for the popular fitness centre, which is moving after five years in Stanley, measures a whopping 4,500 square feet.
The relocation has provided space for bigger and better facilities, including a large Pilates studio. Devotees will be pleased to know there will be room for the Gyrotonic Expansion System (GXS) Pulley Tower Combination Unit (below). For the uninitiated, the equipment is for serious workouts by Pilates and yoga veterans.
Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow are said to be fans of the system, which was developed by a former Romanian ballet dancer while she was recovering from a knee injury. GXS develops muscle strength and flexibility through flowing, circular movements based in part on yoga, ballet, tai chi and swimming. Exercises are performed on customised pieces of equipment.
In addition to the GXS studio, there will be another for mat-based Pilates classes, yoga and children's classes, and one for Pilates Allegro-based classes (an advanced system for people who have mastered the original). About 3,200 square feet is dedicated to the three studios. There will also be washrooms equipped with showers and lockers, a cafe with a children's corner and a boutique with a range of Tulaa sportswear.
From next month the new studio will also feature FlexKids in the afternoons, where children can learn jazz, hip-hop, musical theatre and taekwondo. The Yoga-Ed classes for children will continue.
