Polytechnic University offers a master of science degree in geomatics to train professions in this growing area of technology.
'Spatial information technology is becoming one of the most important technologies in the world today,' says programme leader Professor John Shi Wenzhong. 'Technologies such as Google Earth, satellite images, aerial photos and GPS are becoming more widely used in daily life, presenting a need for a high level of training.'
The course is designed for professionals in geographic information systems (GIS), surveying or related fields. It equips students with the theoretical understanding and practical skills required to specialise in spatial information technology, or land and engineering surveying.
Students can choose to specialise either in GIS or surveying, based on their interests and job needs.
'The course covers spatial information processes, spatial information analysis and data mining, presentation of spatial information and application of spatial information in different areas, such as land, urban and regional planning, environmental resources protection, car navigation and many others,' Shi says.
Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree with honours in engineering, science, technology, geography or a related discipline.
