Click by Ori Brafman and Rom Brafman Broadway Books HK$156
The title Click is shown on the cover with a horseshoe magnet in place of the letter C. That's the cleverest bit of the book, which is about 'the magic of instant connections'. Ori and Rom Brafman (Ori is an organisational thinker and his brother a psychologist) open by describing the 'magic' of an almost-love-at-first-sight coming together of two business executives (who marry after a month), and a pair of physicists whose 'quick-set intimacy' would see them work together to invent the modern microphone. The brothers point out that research psychologists have spent little time trying to understand positive human emotions. Which is why they look at how an immediate attraction starts a chain reaction in the brain that changes the relationship with the person, place or activity. Readers wanting to find potential mates (in love, work or otherwise) should fast-forward to the back, where the authors outline how we can make ourselves more susceptible to such encounters. A willingness to show vulnerability helps, as does paying close attention to what others say. Buy the book, if you feel the need to pay for such advice.
