It's that time of year when A-list celebrities and socialites return from their summer cruises to immerse themselves in a sea of invitations - and it's hard not to get double-booked. Canto-pop star Andy Hui Chi-on was caught out last Thursday. Hui had to rush from Wan Chai's Quarterdeck Club, where he received the Cosmopolitan Fun and Fearless singer of the year award, to Central's Landmark to open Harvey Nichols' autumn-winter fashion show.

Arriving at the awards at about 8pm, Hui spoke to Cosmopolitan and shunned other media, so as not to distract attention from his later appearance at the Harvey Nichols show.

The fashion parade, however, was fashionably almost an hour late. Military-clad models marched off the escalator and onto the runway in Landmark's atrium, following Hui with his commander's baton in hand. Guests in the VIP ring and self-invited onlookers at the mall were still impressed despite the late start.

It seemed the star, who recently ended his three-year relationship with model Michelle Yu, has lost none of his charm. He talked to reporters after the show, denying his gym-toned physique had anything to do with post-break-up blues.

'It's down to frequent exercise,' the 43-year-old said. And maybe a busy schedule. 'I'm working on my next studio album now. It'll be ready by the end of the year.' Hui also deserves an award for his multitasking skills.
