A FULL-COST scholarship, which aims at helping Hong Kong to develop its own expertise in the environmental field, is now offered for the fourth time by the Aberdeen University Hong Kong Association, the British Council and the Swire Educational Trust.
The annual award was set up in 1991 by the three organisers to provide return air fare, tuition and accommodation fees for a one-year postgraduate course leading to an MSc in Environmental Science or an LLM in Environmental Law at the University of Aberd The MSc in Environmental Science is a course for students who want a broad qualification in environmental science, so as to develop a widely based career in the wise use of land and other resources.
The LLM in Environmental Law gives a general understanding of how law is used to control man's impact on the environment.
The first two recipients, Chan Kin-ki and Marcus Ip Kin-chor, are both now working in the environment industry. The current scholar, Fox Wong Kai-on, worked regularly as a volunteer at the Mai Po Marshes before he left for Britain.
All agreed that the study experience was of immense value in broadening their horizons and providing a depth of knowledge which will enable them to contribute even more to Hong Kong and its environmental work in future.
Application for the scholarship for 1994-95 is still open. Those interested should contact Ms Christina Ma on 879-5138 (ext 517) for more information.
