73 Wyndham Street, Central Tel: 2167 8883 Open: 6pm until late

The vibe: this Wyndham favourite has reopened after a mini makeover. It looks more polished and grown-up with new red velvet sofas and sleek, dark wooden chairs and tables. Thankfully, the facelift has not robbed DiVino of its laid-back neighbourhood bar vibe. A fresh coat of white paint and the wicker lights keep the place feeling bright and friendly.

The upgrades, however, still have not resolved DiVino's lack of space. With the crazy crowds that the bar packs in, you might find yourself pushed up against tables lining the narrow corridor. Arrive early for drinks and nab a people-watching table by the entrance, or a quiet spot out on the balcony.

The drinks: although the extensive wine list spans the globe, most of it is dedicated to the grapes of Italy. The bar offers an impressive collection of wines by the glass. There is a decent cocktail menu and new drinks have been added in honour of the reopening. Among these is the popular Italian cocktail, Aperol Spritz (HK$88) made with the eponymous orange-flavoured liqueur, prosecco and a splash of soda water. For a girlier drink, try the Divinothing (HK$88), which is a saccharine solution of vodka, Malibu and melon liqueur with pineapple and cranberry juice.

The verdict: no matter the tightness, DiVino remains one of the best places in town for a drink with friends. It won't hurt to order one of their delicious mixed platters while you're at it.
