Two high-profile tenants at Two IFC in Central have rallied together in a bid to stop the government's controversial plan to build a multi-storey ventilation stack in front of the harbour-front building.

The general manager of the Four Seasons Hotel, William Mackay, and the chief operating officer of fitness centre and retailer Pure Group, Mark Kinvig, said the plan would hurt Hong Kong's reputation as a world city and a popular tourist destination.

The government wants to build the west ventilation building, one of three stacks that will service the Central-Wan Chai bypass, in front of Two IFC, which boasts sweeping views of Hong Kong harbour.

'The ventilation building will give an appalling impression of Hong Kong to international visitors, irrevocably damaging the city's reputation around the world,' said Mackay.

'I question whether government has seriously evaluated the impact of its decision to locate the ventilation building in its proposed position.'

Kinvig said Pure gym members and customers at its bar and cafe had also voiced their concern.
