Dan Buckle, winemaker at Mount Langi Ghiran, will host a dinner this evening at Shang Palace at the Kowloon Shangri-La in Tsim Sha Tsui. It includes marinated sliced goose with home-made sauce paired with the winery's Cliff Edge Shiraz 2005; stewed oxtail with lingzhi and cinnamon served with Langi Shiraz 1998; and baked egg tarts with bird's nest and fresh fruit with The Gap Vineyard Passito Riesling 2004. Also at the Kowloon Shangri-La is a pasta promotion from September 21 to 26. Vincenzo Spinosi of the Spinosini pasta company in Italy will make dishes for lunch and dinner at Angelini restaurant. Spinosi will also prepare a five-course wine dinner on September 24 with dishes such as rolled eggplant filled with Spinosini pasta and mozzarella cheese with tomato sauce served with Fiano di Avellino DOCG 2009 Colli di Lapio; and braised veal cheeks with Spinosini pasta and black truffle served with Barolo Ciabot Manzoni DOCG 2005 Silvio Grasso; Rosso Toscano Il Blu IGT 2007 Brancaia; and Taurasi Vigna Andrea DOCG Colli di Lapio 2006. The wine dinner is HK$980 plus 10 per cent. Spinosi and Angelini chef Vittorio Lucariello will teach a pasta class on September 25. Enrolment costs HK$868 plus 10 per cent and includes lunch. Chefs from the Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok are making regional Thai dishes for the lunch and dinner buffets at the Clipper Lounge at the Mandarin Oriental in Central until September 22. Central Thai dishes will be served until tomorrow, including spicy river prawn soup with lemon grass and straw mushrooms; green chicken curry with eggplant and sweet basil; and banana fritters. North and northeast Thai dishes will be available from September 18 to 22 and include pork spare rib curry with ginger and pickled garlic; stir-fried long beans; and grilled marinated chicken with sticky rice. The lunch buffet is HK$298 plus 10 per cent (children HK$198) Monday to Thursday and HK$318 (HK$218) on Friday. The Independent Wine Centre will have a 'grand day of indulgence' at the Grand Hyatt, Wan Chai, on Saturday. The day starts at 11am with a champagne and caviar brunch that includes Salon Blanc de Blancs Brut 1997, Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 1999 and Veuve Clicquot La Grand Dame 1998. At 2.15pm, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild will host a vertical tasting of his family's wines from Chateau Mouton Rothschild, with vintages 1986, 1996, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. At 5pm there's a tutored vertical tasting of Chateau d'Yquem, with vintages 1962 (in magnum), 1989, 1998, 2001 and 2004. The day ends with dinner of French wines and Chinese cuisine.
