MORE than 90 per cent of maids in Hong Kong suffer some form of abuse or maltreatment, it was claimed yesterday, as hundreds of domestic workers protested in Statue Square against poor working conditions.

The demonstration, marking International Labour Day, drew attention to common forms of abuse, such as long working hours or lack of food.

Speakers at the demonstration that a blacklist of employers who had broken the law should be introduced.

They also called for the minimum wage rise of $300 per month, agreed last October, to be extended to pre-existing contracts.
