There's nothing like champagne and a shop full of pretty knick-knacks to brighten up a rainy day. Mother-of-one Narguess Sousi (left) offered that on Tuesday at the opening of her children's boutique Petit Bazaar in Gough Street, Central.

Sipping and browsing amid colourful clothing and toys sourced from over 90 brands, mostly from France, guests were overheard saying such things as: 'These things are so precious, they make me want to have a baby just so I have an excuse to buy them.'

Sousi's concept for the store was to include adult-friendly designs, such as multi-purpose totes and cosy home decorations, to showcase the talents of small handicraft businesses from which she imports. 'My interests in child- and home-related craftwork started with a blog in France that I followed after my child was born,' Sousi said. 'One blog led to another, and soon I discovered a whole universe of people who made beautiful things for children. The accessories you'll find here also reflect my love of decor.'

Guests Shea Stanley and Amie Hibbard recently launched a go-to site for parents in Hong Kong called Little Steps (www.littlestepshongkong.com). 'We noticed that it's mostly through word of mouth that parents find advice on fun things to do with their kids,' Stanley said. 'After my daughter was born, Amie and I thought it would be great to start a site that captured all of that.'

Hibbard said: 'There's a real boom in kids-related businesses right now; it's a great time to get involved.'
