If you want to make a meaningful contribution to the community, here's your chance. Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and the Agency for Volunteer Service have joined hands to help those who want to take part in voluntary activities.

'Give a Day. Get a Disney Day', which was officially launched on March 28, is open to anyone who is willing to spare eight hours to do voluntary work. The reward is a free, one-day ticket to Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.

Since opening its doors in 2005, the local theme park has encouraged its staff to join volunteer work.

'Through the programme, we hope to get more people and families in Hong Kong to join as volunteers and to benefit from it,' says Hong Kong Disneyland Resort managing director, Andrew Kam Min-ho. 'My biggest satisfaction is when I see the volunteers gain a sense of self-worth through volunteering. In fact, it is usually the volunteer who benefits the most.'

The community spirit runs in Kam's family. His son and daughter, aged 11 and nine, are also volunteers.

'It's such a good way for children to learn about other people's lives and the issues facing our society, and to see how they can help. These are things that they will not necessarily learn in the classroom,' says Kam.
