Driver held after Kwai Chung crash leaves taxi driver dead

A driver has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death and for refusing to give a breath test after a crash in Kwai Chung, in which a taxi driver in the oncoming lane was killed.

The man also reportedly tried to flee the scene.

The 44-year-old taxi driver died in nearby Princess Margaret Hospital after the head-on crash. A male passenger in the cab was also in serious condition.

Three female passengers in the private car, aged 24 and 25, were in stable condition in the hospital and in Yan Chai Hospital, Tsuen Wan.

The driver of the car, 32, was arrested but allowed bail. He was in serious condition in Princess Margaret Hospital.

Both cars were severely damaged, with windows and windscreens shattered. Both air bags in the private car's front seats had been deployed.

The accident happened shortly after 6am, when the car was travelling uphill along Wo Yip Hop Road. The car hit a van in the oncoming lane before the taxi, also in that lane. The driver of the van was unhurt.
