A 47-year-old mainlander who allegedly killed his wife and threw her into the sea on Friday appeared in Kwun Tong Court yesterday charged with murder.
Laboratory researcher Wang Weilie , from Guangzhou, did not enter a plea. The case was adjourned to October 25 and Wang was remanded in custody.
At about 7.30am on Friday the defendant and his wife, Yang Wenjuan , 43, were on the casino ship MV Macau Success on the way back to Hong Kong, Acting Principal Magistrate Abu Bakar bin Wahab said.
On the seventh deck of the vessel, when it was southeast of Waglan Island, a woman saw Wong push an unconscious woman into the sea, Wahab said. The woman told security guards and called police.
Bloodstains were found on Wong's clothes, the magistrate said. Police found his wife in the sea at 8.45am and arrested Wong. He was taken to the headquarters of the Marine Department's regional crime unit in Sai Wan Ho for questioning.
Under caution, Wang told police his wife, a post-graduate student, had told him several times she wanted to commit suicide and she wanted to die at see, the magistrate said.
