notes from the dorm

I had my 'O-Week' (freshman week) late last month and whoever said Canadians don't party hard obviously had not been to the University of Western Ontario.

After beating McMaster University 50-19 in the first kickoff this season, we had a concert that featured KO, the Midway State and lastly Down with Webster! A beach ball party followed, and best yet, Webster even partied with the Western students. Still, as crazy as we partied, we all knew when to stop - we all had classes on Monday.

With the weekend over, I was pleasantly surprised with a box of Smarties outside my door and a cute note from my Don (resident assistant) Jess wishing the dorm luck. It was a really good start to the day. I had picked out my first-day outfit weeks ago, so I didn't spend much time thinking about what message it would send.

University was the absolute opposite of what I expected. Forget feeling instantly cool because of the 'university student' label. The day started pretty much in a hot mess. I was so flustered about the whole 'start of university' experience that I forgot to take my pencil case to my first French course.

Western Ontario is a huge campus with many confusing halls and rooms. I walked down the same corridor five times before I found 'UC-286' and had to ask for directions after class for a way out of the maze.

We also had a 'floor dinner' with everyone (even though me, Adrian, Sandra and Evelyn C had night class and had to leave early). Although we had been living together for a week already I still had not gotten to know everyone. This really gave me a chance to bond with all my floormates. I feel like we can really call each other a 'family' now.
