The classic game franchise Resident Evil returns with the fourth film instalment - a blood-spewing shoot 'em up.
In Resident Evil: Afterlife, there has been a global outbreak of the deadly T-virus. Most humans have been wiped out by killer zombies, and the rest will likely be infected soon.
Led by Alice (Milla Jovovich), a band of merciless zombie hunters take refuge in an old prison. From there, the group comes up with a plan: escape and find Arcadia, the final place of refuge for the non-infected.
Paul W.S. Anderson is writer, director and producer, and gives Resident Evil the 3D treatment. He combines 3D with extreme slow-motion action, making the battle scenes fun to watch. The breathtaking acrobatic movements certainly defy physics and logic - in slow motion, nothing slips your attention, and every moment seems impossible.
The slow-motion scenes may be a visual feast, but the technique is used so frequently, you may be left wondering whether you can sit through the entire film.
Besides the action sequences and a high-energy electronic score, the film has very little to offer. The dialogue is not even remotely engaging, and as infrequent as the verbal exchanges are, you come to appreciate every moment the characters' mouths are closed.
