Roger Federer had no idea what the Asian Games was all about, but that did not prevent the Swiss legend from saying he believed Hong Kong would be a perfect host for the multi-sports event in 2023.

Federer, on a brief stopover on his way to next week's Shanghai Masters, gamely tackled a flood of questions at a packed media conference yesterday. The issues ranged from fatherhood, his (losing) battle with Rafael Nadal, and if Hong Kong was suited to host the 2023 Asian Games.

'I think involving sports in a city like Hong Kong is good,' said Federer (pictured). 'Hong Kong has a lot to offer, it is fascinating city and with its location, it has huge potential.'

The 16-time grand slam winner who was in town in his role as a global ambassador with Credit Suisse, revealed one of his best moments in his career came at a multi-sports event when he won the gold medal in doubles at the Beijing Olympics.

'It was an amazing moment in my career. I still look back and it sends shivers down my spine hearing the national anthem and sharing the moment with my friend [Stanislas Wawrinka],' Federer said.

'I won't ever play in an Asian Games, but sports is always good for a city.
