Is the Fed Express still going at full steam, or is it a case of Fed Up? The man himself has no doubt what the answer is, even if others are predicting that the Greatest (player) Of All Time, or GOAT, will soon have to make way for another.
Roger Federer is adamant that all talk of his demise is premature. He concedes Rafael Nadal is 'the best right now', but also says that the game has all the fidelity of a scorned lover, meaning nothing can be taken for granted.
'Rafa is the best player in the world right now having won the last three grand slams. He deserves to be world number one, but before that he didn't win a tournament for nine months and people were writing him off. Now they say he is the best,' says Federer.
Polite as always, and with a ready smile on his face, it is hard to dislike the Swiss champion. On his one-day visit to Hong Kong this week - at the behest of Credit Suisse for whom he is a global ambassador - Federer charmed the media with stories about his twin daughters.
But people have loved Federer for more than his homely qualities. Regal on the court, he is also a picture of decorum. His good manners have won him more fans than the all-round skills that have earned him a record 16 grand slam titles.
The problem these days is the brawny presence of Spanish street fighter Nadal. He has out-hustled Federer and deprived him of several grand slam titles. And even though the Swiss master has won almost double the number of grand slams that Nadal can lay claim to (nine), the experts believe it won't be long before the record is broken.
