Withers has expanded its family law practice by hiring leading lawyers in Hong Kong. It has appointed Sharon Ser as a partner, while Rita Ku, Deanna Tam and Jacqueline Mak are joining as associates.
Ser will head the family law practice, which now offers the first international cross-jurisdiction family law service in the world. Withers' Hong Kong team will work alongside its London team to service clients with interests in both locations, and on the mainland and throughout Asia.
Most of Hong Kong's law on divorce and asset division is based on English law.
'Sharon is widely regarded as one of the finest family lawyers in Hong Kong, having practised here since 1987. These appointments mark a pivotal point in Withers' growth strategy and enables us now to offer unrivalled family law services in Hong Kong, complementing our recognised cutting-edge expertise in prenuptial agreements and divorce cases involving complex international trusts,' says Marcus Dearle, Withers' Hong Kong managing director.
Ser and the three associates have joined Withers Hong Kong through its associated Hong Kong law firm Facey & Co, which was set up in August and will officially merge with Withers Hong Kong in January.
'My decision to move to Withers was largely dictated by the needs of my existing clients who have international interests and require creative, proactive and international legal resources,' Ser says.
