Ruth's Chris Steak House, an American chain of restaurants with a five-star feel, has been in Hong Kong for more than a decade and is still one of the most popular places for businessmen to bring their clients for lunches and for couples to go on intimate dates. There are a number of steak selections to choose from. The ribeye (HK$450/12oz, right, or HK$540/16oz) is the best choice for meat lovers who don't like their steaks too tough. Well-marbled with fat and meat, the medium done ribeye was tender. The chef adds a slab of butter on top of the steak after it has been cooked, so the buttery taste lies on the surface and can be smelled, but hasn't been absorbed yet into the steak. Other steak choices include the New York strip (HK$450/12oz or HK$540/16oz) which has a firmer texture, the cowboy ribeye (HK$620) and the T-bone (HK$620). The cowboy ribeye and T-bone are Australian wagyu. Non-steak main courses include lobster tail (market price) and lamb chops (HK$510). For starters, the barbequed shrimps (HK$150, top right), swimming in barbecue butter sauce, went well with a basket of warm bread for dipping into the sauce. Homemade desserts that come in huge portions are also offered and the creme brulee (HK$95), which is made from vanilla beans, was as smooth as tofu while the bread pudding with whiskey (HK$90) is recommended for drinkers. A bar in the restaurant serves all types of cocktails and wines. Dinner costs about HK$700 to HK$800 per person.
