I AM concerned about the environment in Chun Yeung Street, North Point. The problem needs to be resolved, as conditions in the street are poor.
Many residents were pleased to learn about the centralisation of the Java Road market a few months ago.
However, to our disappointment, the move of the market was in fact merely a change of the market structure. Nothing was done to solve the problem of pollution caused by hawkers and the traffic situation in the area has got worse.
Stores are ''expanding'' their retail areas by putting boxes in front of their stores just in front of Yan Tak Building on Chun Yeung Street. There is a bad smell in the area.
I sincerely hope that something can be done to alleviate the pollution, especially during the summer when the threat of disease increases.
The retail store owners are being inconsiderate and I hope the relevant government department can do something to rectify the problem.
