Torque and tyres, and a four-wheel drive - that's what little boys are made of. Spirits were high at the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup countdown party at Hollywood Road's new nightclub Republik on Tuesday.

Local pro-racers Marchy Lee and Matthew Marsh were among racing-world VIPs toasting Hong Kong teams competing in the final round of the endurance race next month in Zhuhai.

'It's the first time this world-famous event is taking place in Asia,' Lee said. 'It says a lot about how quickly the market in China is maturing. I think it will be a great introduction for the Hong Kong public to endurance racing.'

Lee caught up with more than a few old friends from the original Le Mans circuit in France, where he trained as a newcomer years ago. In turn, they teased the pro-driver for wanting to leave Formula racing for 'the sedentary life of Nascar', the lucrative US-based circuit.

'Don't believe a word these crazy boys are saying,' Lee said. 'I'll still be in the big F1 races; but Nascar is a challenge I want to tackle, in part because it is a different culture to European and Asian racing communities.' The star of the evening was the Audi R8 LMS (below with Lee) that Lee and Marsh will drive in the 1,000-kilometre Zhuhai race.
