Douglas Whyte and Darren Beadman - two of Hong Kong's most accomplished riders - look set to go head to head in a thrilling duel in today's Jockey Challenge and were last night posted almost equal favourites in early betting. Beadman was hammered from $2.35 straight into $2.10 favourite within minutes of fixed-odds betting opening, but Whyte may just nose out his rival at $2.50 and claim the prize. Beadman has a tremendous book to look forward to after making a low-key resumption from suspension at Happy Valley on Wednesday night and will be champing at the bit to show fill-in rider Jeff Lloyd who is boss on John Moore's horses. He will need every one of his big name chances firing on all cylinders to keep up with Whyte and the 'Durban Demon' should pack just enough power to out shade his rival. Lion's Fortune, Surfer Boy and Sapelli will launch Whyte onto the score sheet in the opening three races and he will only kick on from there. Rising talents Industrial Hero, Saddlers Lodge and Enhanced make up the middle of his card and should keep his backers confident of holding out a late surge from Beadman. Don't think that Whyte won't be adding late points of his own, however, and look for Amigo, Super Satin, Lucky Magic and Tremendous Add to give him the last boost required to ensure he gets over the line.
