Rehabaid Society is looking for support from Operation Santa Claus (OSC) to fund its 'Up Where We Belong' programme. It provides hi-tech equipment to enhance the learning efficiency of students suffering from degenerative diseases. OSC is a charity campaign co-organised and co-founded by the South China Morning Post and RTHK. Sunny Wong Yick-man, 18, is a Form Three student from Hong Kong Red Cross Princess Alexandra School. Sunny has normal intelligence but he cannot read or write properly because of a brain condition. With the help of OSC and Rehabaid Society, Sunny is looking forward to receiving a custom-made laptop which can be used to communicate with others. Jonathan Wong Chi-pang, senior occupational therapist at the society, said: 'Many patients like Sunny with speech communication disorders and physical disabilities require highly specialised equipment. Small details like the size of the keyboard and the softness of the keys will affect the users greatly. The laptop for Sunny fits him perfectly, [unlike the ones he has to borrow from school].' With support from OSC, Direction Association for the Handicapped is hoping to run the LIFT Social Enterprise to provide job opportunities for wheelchair users. The project is part of the life education talks hosted by the association. Darren Chan Shueng-chung, project officer of the association, said: 'We will employ wheelchair users to design and produce gifts and souvenirs and run the enterprise.' OSC will be officially launched on November 16.
