Tsang inspects incinerator in Tokyo

Adrian Wan

Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen was impressed by the Tamagawa incineration plant in Tokyo, which he visited yesterday ahead of the Apec meeting in Yokohama today, a spokesman said. The plant can handle 300 tonnes of waste a day, and can store 1,200 tonnes of refuse for future processing. Located near residential areas, it can reduce the volume of waste by 90 per cent. 'We have much to learn from Japan's experience of waste treatment,' the spokesman said. Tsang is scheduled to visit two more incineration plants today.
